The e-mail distribution lists have been created to facilitate easy communication between the list members.

If you are a member of the list, you can send a message to all the other members by simply addressing your message to that list address. For example, a class of 2002 parent can send a message to all the other class of 2002 parents by addressing their message to SJLS2002@stjohnsws.org. However, you cannot send messages to a list unless you are a member of that list. This prevents a class of 2004 parent OR a spammer from sending messages to the "churchstaff" list. There are a few exceptions to the "approved member" rules and they are described below. If you have a need to send a message to all the distribution lists, please contact the school office.

Please note that for the parents’ distribution lists, the teacher is NOT included as a list member. Teachers can send messages to their own class list address, but teachers will not receive copies of any messages sent to the lists unless they are included as a CC: recipient. This allows the parents to plan teacher appreciation events. If you want to include the teacher in a message concerning their class, be sure to CC: the teacher's address in your message. (Note for teachers - if you want to see a copy of what you send to your class parents, don't forget to CC: yourself!) In fact, all the church and school staff can send messages to any of the lists - they are all "approved message senders."

A Note About Security and Privacy
As noted above, use of these lists is restricted to list members and "approved message senders" only. This greatly reduces the possibility of junk mail entering the system from outside. If you would like to see who the individual members of your list are, you may do so by sending a message to majordomo@stjohnsws.org. The body of your message should contain the single line "who listname" where listname is the first part of the list address - see the example below. You will receive an automated reply from the mail server containing the e-mail addresses included in the specified list. And again, for privacy purposes, only list members and "approved message senders" can use this automated feature.
